The General Electric Company is a conglomerate company founded on April 23, 1889 by Thomas A. Edison and Henry Willard in New York City, New York after consolidation of the Edison Lamp Works, Edison Machine Works, Bergmann & Company and Edison Electric Light Company. Its headquarters have been in New York City, New York (1889-1974), Fairfield, Connecticut (1974-2016) and Boston, Massachusetts (2016-present). In 1892, the Edison General Electric Company merged with the Thomson-Houston Electric Company, forming the General Electric Company.
