Canadian Industries, Ltd. was founded in 1910 by a merger between the Hamilton Powder Company, Dominion Cartridge Company, Acadia Powder Company, Ontario Powder Company, Standard Explosives Company, Western Explosives Company and Victoria Chemical Company. Its industry is chemicals (previously explosives) and its headquarters are in New York City, New York. It merged with the Canadian Salt Company, Grasselli Chemical Company and Mond Nickel Company in 1929. In 1954, the company was split into two parts: one owned by Du Pont (renamed Du Pont of Canada Securities, Ltd., headquartered in Mississauga, Ontario) and the other owned by Imperial Chemical Industries. In 2008, CIL's new parent became AkzoNobel when it acquired ICI.
